0 The Apple iPad of Steve Jobs and the murder of Kindle

Well, I do not exclude the importance of this new object, but I would like to approach this device came from the mind of Steve Jobs, in a way completely different than the sugary reviews I found online, beginning with a question. But the purpose for which it was created is clear to everyone? And Kindle, how?

The affordance
Certainly the more experienced, the iPad may seem full of limitations. There's no camera, there is the micro SD card slot, no Adobe Flash technology. So what, an iPhone with the syndrome of gigantism? But here the affordance concept developed by Gibson in 1979 immediately comes to mind.

The affordance is a resource that the environment "offers" to a person able to grasp it: well when you look at this new object of Cupertino home we suffered the distinct impression that is made for something special, and perhaps for that alone. And 'in fact, probably the best device on the market for those who love reading and totally kill the Amazon Kindle in three moves.

1. The contents are changing, and where is Kindle?
In the U.S., Kindle has made incredible progress in the digital book market, rather than helping, requiring to push the limits for a digital reading and acceptance of these technologies, the iPad is a breakthrough for e-marketplaces and reading e-books. We now we have become accustomed to internet users a way to "consume" content online, viewing pictures, watching videos and at the same time adding our comments, etc. ... all in less than nothing.

Take nytimes.com, (to name just a coincidence) the first page is completely embedded with titles that are updated continuously, presentations that change at will, user comments, links to other sources, full of videos , photos, photostory, documentaries and journalistic reportage.

Limitations Kindle not support any of these new methods of storytelling, and the device will suffer the consequences. I am not suggesting that we need to add videos to prorpio read the books, but I think a device that does not offer different types of content can only reach a small market segmented (always bearing in mind its affordance).

2. Kindle not technology is evolving quickly enough.
Yes, it's true that Amazon has taken up to 46 developers for its new Kindle (see img), but the team could at least make some changes to the device. As many know the buttons on the keyboard are essentially a distraction when reading and a waste of space on a device that could shrink the size of the screen. The color grigino / greenish, like an old Palm, the screen is not very comforting to read, it would be worth a fully interactive display and colorful, but here we would need a whole new operating system.

3. Kindle is too expensive for a single purpose device
Kindle currently costs $ 489. With an extra $ 10 you can purchase an iPad or surf the Web, watch movies, do some 'work in iWork and send e-mail.

At this point you say, Well of course, Apple is out once again, but be careful, we must take into account an important factor.

At present, Amazon has two roads that can choose. One would be to completely redo the Kindle, with the addition of more functionality, speed it up, add the touch srceen, color, a web browser and a new user interface.

The second option would be to offer the device at a dirt cheap prices, making some small adjustment to a very low cost. A man caught a good man, will have second thoughts or at least difficult to justify the $ 500 dell'iPad, when for $ 100 can find a new device that replaces its Kindle books.

Kindle Store
Recall that Amazon has much more experience and understands the market of e-book and the strategies to use. In this regard I believe that will not miss the opportunity to sell his books sull'iPad Apple rather than to keep his head down on his, now old century, Kindle.

Note well
I have dealt with the speech function to read a digital book instead of paper, but do not want it to be taken as established, some have already written extensively on this topic but it often confuses the press, newspapers or newspapers "Newsagents" compared to books and tomes. I believe there is much difference in reading. The next.
